The Latin Church

The Latin ChurchLatin Church, devoted to the Holy Trinity is located in Gornji Matejevac, 7km far from Nis. The Church was built on the hill Metoh, at the time of Byzantine Emperor Manolis I Comnenos rule (1143-1180). The Church was rehabilitated in the beginning of XV century during the rule of despot Stevan Lazarevic. The Church has also been known as “Latin” owing to a colony of traders from Dubrovnik who used it in XVI century. The church was built as single-nave structure in the form of inscribed cross with a dome and a facade made of bricks and stones.
